What Is Give A Shift?
First, you need to know that I love puns.
You’ve been warned.
Where did Give A Shift come from?
I was taught my whole life to “lean in” and to get a seat at the table where the important meetings happen.
And that’s exactly what I did for 25 years.
After graduating from the University of Connecticut’s School of Business, I immediately got a job at an ad agency in New York.
Being the new kid on the block, I knew I had to work extra hard to prove myself.
This meant working 12 hour days and often on weekends in order to meet the seemingly endless demands from often unappreciative clients. Eventually, I rose to the top of this small boutique agency. I was traveling all over the world and making a lot of money for a 20-something-year-old.
That wasn’t enough, so I then went on to pursue my Master’s Degree. I felt this would give me a badge I could proudly display.
My corporate climb continued until there was nowhere else for me to climb.
Phew. I made it, right?!
I did what any determined executive would do: I started my own company.
I founded my own marketing agency and using sheer grit, determination, and a 7-day work week, I grew this start-up from 0 to 7-figures in 18 months.
I had it all, right?!
The problem was that I leaned in so far that I fell over…
Because eventually, my world came crashing down around me.
My 3-year old daughter came home from preschool to give me a card she had made for me for Mother’s Day.
This was a kind of fill in the blank card where the teachers had pre-written sentences and phrases and then helped the children fill in the blank as it relates to his or her mom.
One of the fill in the blanks was, “My mom’s job is to________________________________.
And this is how my daughter answered that question:
“My mom’s job is to sleep at work.”
I read those words and suddenly it felt as if my world stopped.
What my daughter meant was that mommy was never home.
Mommy traveled so much and was always sleeping in hotels and so in her little, sweet, innocent 3-year-old mind, mommy’s job was to sleep at work.
I was obviously aware that I was gone a lot. But I always justified it.
It’s for the sake of our family.
It’s for the sake of the kid’s futures.
Eventually, I will slow down and be able to enjoy the fruits of my hard labor, but not now, I thought.
Now is for working so much that I choose to leave my family week after week.
Now is for working as much as possible chasing every dollar I could.
But it was all for them, right?
In that moment everything changed. I changed.
I started to Give A Shift.
I began to question everything I thought I knew to be true.
I began to turn my focus inward instead of outward.
I began questioning my purpose.
Who was I?
What was I put on this earth to do?
What kind of business do I really want to create?
What does it really take to be successful and what does success even look like?
What do I want MY LIFE to look like?
And then it hit me. I had spent my whole life trying to be accomplished when all I really wanted was to be FREE!
I had become trapped in a prison of my own making.
But I wanted to be FREE.
FREE from constantly feeling the need to prove myself!
FREE from feeling stressed out trying to do it all!
FREE from feeling guilty any time I wasn’t working, yet at the same time, free from feeling guilty for not being with my family!
FREE from believing that I had to practically kill myself in order to make money and create the life and business I wanted!
FREE to have the life and business OF MY DREAMS!!
FREE To have ANYTHING I WANT without explanation or justification to anyone!!
In finding my freedom, I discovered that I could help other women like me, find theirs.
The Give A Shift System
Helping women live a full life, is my purpose.
Give A Shift is a daily life system that gives women the ability to engineer their own realities and attain unprecedented levels of success in every area of their lives.
I began to realize that I wasn’t the only woman who had “leaned in” only to find they weren’t living a life they love.
More and more women are finding the courage to live a life of freedom.
Okay, Mel isn’t a woman over 40 like me, but he is wearing makeup and a skirt so he can be an honorary member of my tribe.
As our friend above discovered, wanting freedom and finding freedom isn’t the same thing.
The path to freedom isn’t always a clear or easy journey.
Breaking Through The Bullshift
Wouldn’t it be great to have somebody who’s been down that path before to guide you?
Oh hello, that’s me.
The biggest roadblocks on the path to freedom and living your best life are the old outdated belief systems we base our lives on.
I call these Bullshifts!
Once these Bullshifts are busted, we are able to engineer our lives the way we want them to be.
We can live lives full of love, passion, joy, and happiness
Lives built on serving and giving not getting and taking.
Blissful, abundant lives from which we attract more financial abundance than we ever thought possible without killing ourselves or sacrificing our families to do so.
True lasting success comes from living a life of purpose and meaning.
It means valuing your time with those you love most.
It means giving and serving others first and foremost.
It means imagining what success on your terms looks like.
Once you do this, you too will be free to engineer your own reality any way you want it to be.
You will Give A Shift.
